U.N. Peacekeepers

Is anyone else pissed off about the constant allegations that UN peacekeepers are abusing the very civilians they are there to protect? It seems that every year there is a new substantial report about peacekeepers raping children. WTF is that about? Really? I mean, REALLY? Where the *hell* are they finding these people? Are you swearword kidding me?

The Democrats did try, only the Republicans didn t. Not to be partisan here, but that is precisely what happened. To convice the Republicans to pass the debt ceiling, President Obama came up with a budget plan that cut $4 trillion from the budget and added $1 trillion in revenue (a 1% increase in taxes on the uber-rich), and made cuts to Social Security and Medicare but did not get rid of either. The Democrats in Congress came up with a plan that cut $3 trillion from the budget, did absolutely no tax hikes, and left Medicare and Social Security alone. The Republicans came up with a plan that cut $1.5 trillion from the budget ($2.5 trillion less than Obama s plan, $1.5 trillion less than the Democrat plan, and $500 billion less than the plan that eventually passed Congress), did no tax hikes, and got rid of Social Security and Medicare entirely. If Republicans had been serious about cutting spending to pass the debt ceiling, they would have jumped at Obama s plan, which lowered the deficit by $5 trillion. Even the ones against tax hikes would have jumped at the Democrat plan, which cut twice as much as the Republican plan and did it with no tax hikes.Republicans were out for two things to get rid of Social Security and Medicare, and to deny President Obama a possible victory even at the cost of the American economy we are now seeing the economic effects of their efforts to defeat Obama. The Republicans wanted to keep the support of the TEA Party, and they sacrificed America to do it._______________Edit:Sorry, Neil, but it was Obama who had that plan, NOT the Republicans. The Republicans blocked the plan that cut $4 trillion not because it did tax hikes but because it did not get rid of Social Security and Medicare and because it would allow Obama to take some credit for saving America.References :

Alistair This is a great post! I d add Simplicity/Low barrier to entry to the list. Twitter is insanely simple which makes it very accessible to the masses. Of course, once you tweet your first lonely tweet, you realize you don t want to be alone any more. You crave that community connection. And nothing is stopping you from making that happen.Even the community add-ons (hashtags, etc.) are simple to understand and easy for people to participate in. At this stage of it s life, twitter is probably easier that browsing. Also, I think you ve hit on something important in the sometimescast I can walk away from Twitter for a week and not be lost or shut out of a conversation. My stream exists in my time .

Love that picture. :)Annan is cherry picking. No question about it.Thank God he's gone. Unfortunately, Bolton is gone, too. It's also unfortunate that Jeane Kirkpatrick is NOT getting the recognition she deserves. She was a great patriot.

well it would appear that another idiot car driver didn't see a biker, driving home the road 2 minutes from my own has seen an incident, I saw the front forks and wheel of a bike, what I thought was a push chair but turned out to be the mangled engine of a bike, and goodness knows where the rest of it went, and the front end of a now dead car leaking all elements of fluid over the ground. Didn't see the injured, I just drove round through the police cordon. So another idiot driver doing damage.I was also thinking of an icey day earlier this year when I saw some silly girl pull out on a biker without indication, I thought the guy on the bike was going to go into the back of her. Silly cow got a piece of my mind when as we parked in the same road, told her to use her mirrors and indictors as taught and look out for other motorists on two wheels.
